Purpose
The hydrogen test proof cell is a critical piece of equipment used to ensure the safety and integrity of carbon fibre hydrogen storage tanks. Its primary function is to subject these tanks to rigorous pressure testing to verify their ability to withstand high pressures without deformation or failure.
Process
The testing process involves several key steps:
Water filling: The tank is filled with water, which is used as a testing medium due to its safety and ease of handling compared to air.
Pressurisation: The tank is then pressurised to a level significantly higher than its intended working pressure to simulate extreme conditions.Monitoring: During pressurisation, the cell monitors various parameters, including:
- Tank expansion: To ensure the tank doesn’t deform excessively.
- Water volume: To measure any changes in the tank’s internal volume.
- Pressure release: After the pressure test is complete, the pressure is released and the tank inspected for any signs of damage or leaks.
